Members’ Day Flying Display Programme
This year’s Members’ Day will once again feature a wonderfully varied collection of historic, classic and high-performance aircraft. From the unmistakable sound of wartime engines to precision formation flying and breathtaking aerobatics, there should be something for everyone to enjoy. Flying will start at 13.00 with the arrival of the Navy Wings Fairey Swordfish. There will be a break between 14.00 and 15.00 when the Tiger 9 will restart the second half. The display will finish around 16.00.
Fairey Swordfish
Affectionately known as the “Stringbag”, the Fairey Swordfish was an apparently old-fashioned biplane which achieved extraordinary success during the Second World War. This exceptionally rare and evocative aircraft is expected to start the display at 13.00.
Extra
Built for unlimited aerobatics, the Extra is capable of extraordinary rates of roll and seemingly impossible manoeuvres. Expect a fast, energetic display demonstrating the remarkable performance and agility of this purpose-built aerobatic aircraft.
Pitts S-2S Special
Small, powerful and exceptionally agile, the Pitts Special is one of the most recognisable aerobatic biplanes in the world. Its display combines rapid rolls, tight turns and dramatic vertical manoeuvres in a performance that is rarely short of spectacular.
Hawker Hurricane Formation
A truly exceptional pairing of Hawker Hurricanes will take to the air together. Hurricane R4118 is the only surviving airworthy Hurricane to have fought in the Battle of Britain, while ‘PEG’s’ is the world’s only two-seat Hurricane. Seeing these two remarkable aircraft flying in formation promises to be one of the highlights of Members’ Day.
North American Harvard
The Harvard was the advanced trainer on which thousands of Allied pilots prepared for operational flying during the Second World War. Its powerful radial engine, distinctive silhouette and unmistakable sound make it a firm favourite at any flying display.
Yakovlev Yak-52
Originally developed as a military training aircraft, the Yak-52 is strong, agile and superbly suited to aerobatics. Its powerful radial engine and spirited handling produce a display filled with energy, noise and classic Eastern European character.
Westland Sea King
For decades, the Sea King was one of Britain’s most recognisable helicopters, serving in search and rescue, military and maritime roles. Its size and unmistakable profile make it an imposing sight in the air. A Westland Lynx is also expected to join us as a static exhibit.
Tiger Nine
Nine de Havilland Tiger Moths flying together is a sight that could have come straight from an RAF training airfield of the 1930s or 1940s. The Tiger Nine’s graceful formation display celebrates one of Britain’s best-loved training aircraft and the skill required to fly these historic biplanes in close company.
Solo Tiger Moth
The classic de Havilland Tiger Moth will also take centre stage in its own right. Its elegant lines, open cockpits and gentle aerobatics evoke the golden age of aviation and demonstrate why the Tiger Moth remains such an enduring favourite.
Gyrocopter
Distinctive, agile and rather different from everything else in the programme, the gyrocopter is always a crowd-pleaser. Its remarkable manoeuvrability and very short take-off and landing capabilities will be demonstrated in an entertaining and unusual display.
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
We are delighted to be expecting a flypast from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The particular aircraft and timing will be confirmed nearer the day, subject—as always—to operational commitments, weather and aircraft serviceability.
Westland Lysander
With its distinctive high wing and exceptional short-field performance, the Lysander became famous for secret wartime missions carrying agents into and out of occupied Europe. It is a fascinating aircraft with a remarkable story and a wonderfully distinctive appearance in flight.
Currie Wot
The Currie Wot is a charming British single-seat sporting biplane designed for amateur construction. Compact, characterful and steeped in the traditions of grassroots flying, it will provide a delightful non-aerobatic contribution to the programme.
As with every flying event, aircraft appearances and timings are subject to weather, serviceability, operational requirements and any necessary display authorisations. Changes may therefore occur before or during the day.
