Learn to Fly

A key part of our business at West London Aero Club is teaching people to fly.  We offer top quality, competitively priced aviation instruction on the whole range of courses, including PPL, LAPL, IR(R), Night Flying, Safety Pilots Courses and Flying Instructor Courses, these are all backed up with a comprehensive range of Ground School tuition. Our flying school is open from 08:00 hrs seven days a week, and anyone of any age can learn to fly, although you do need to be 16 years old before you can go solo. We are situated just three miles from the M4 (J8/9) and six miles from the M40 (J4). Central London is only 35 miles away and easily accessible by train or taxi. Why not start by booking an Introductory Lesson? With both the half hour and the one hour trial lesson you will receive a full briefing both before and after the flying. In the winter this will take place in our cosy warm club house where you can enjoy the facilities of our bar and restaurant. In the Summer you can wander outside onto the lawn and watch the comings and goings of the aircraft on the field.
Within in our clubhouse we have a dedicated flight planning area, and provide both students and qualified pilots with NOTAM’s, weather reports as well as the normal CAA safety board leaflets.

The Private Pilot’s Licence – UK FCL PPL

The United Kingdom FCL PPL requires a minimum of 45 hours training. General handling exercises are followed by circuit flying and navigation including your solo cross-country flight. Our course structure will make passing the nine multiple choice written exams quite straightforward. When all the flying training and examinations are complete a skills test flown with one of our friendly examiners is the final step towards your PPL. We pride ourselves on offering high quality, professional instruction in a friendly environment. Once you have experienced the freedom your PPL brings, additional ratings are available to add to your licence, allowing you to fly different aircraft, fly at night or in more challenging weather.

The Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence – LAPL – Unfortunately this course is currently unavailable.

The LAPL requires a minimum of just 30 flying hours. The concept behind the LAPL was to create a simplified licence with a shorter training course and less onerous medical standards. In the case of aeroplanes it is limited to a maximum take-off weight of two tonnes and no more than three passengers. Flights may only take place in good weather. With some extra training it can be upgraded to the UK FCL PPL.
